We review the Pioneer UDP-LX500 4K Blu-ray player which is pitched as a universal disc player that supports SACD & DVD-Audio by the Japanese brand.

HDR formats supported include HDR10, HDR10+ (following firmware update in the future) and Dolby Vision.

The retail price is £999, making it one of the most expensive 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players on the market, exceeded only by the flagship Pioneer UDP-LX800 which retails at £2199.

Throughout this review, we compared the Pioneer LX500 vs the Panasonic DP-UB9000 and occasionally the OPPO UDP-203.

Audio kit used to test sound performance included a pair of Bowers & Wilkins 603 floorstanders, a Rotel RA-1572 stereo amplifier, as well as Chord Shawline cables.
