Sony may have just unveiled a true "OLED killer." During a visit to Sony’s Tokyo headquarters, I got an exclusive look at their groundbreaking RGB mini-LED technology—something they’ve been perfecting for three years. Unlike traditional mini-LEDs, which rely on blue LEDs and quantum dots to produce white light, Sony’s approach uses independent red, green, and blue backlights. This drastically reduces blooming, enhances black levels, and boosts color brightness. With mass production starting in 2026, Sony’s RGB mini-LED could deliver OLED-level quality at larger sizes and lower prices. The race is on, and OLED finally has serious competition in the premium TV space.
