In June, Sonos will release Sonos S2, a new app and operating system (OS) that will power the next generation of products and experiences. Sonos S2 will have new features, usability updates, and more personalization moving forward. The new app will also be able to support higher resolution audio technologies for music and home theater.

If you keep your system on the S1 Controller app, you can continue to use your system as you do today. If you decide to download the new Sonos app and separate your S1 and S2 compatible speakers, you will not be able to group speakers across the different systems. The S1 Controller app will receive bug fixes and security patches, but it will not receive future software features.
